How long does the prosthetic fitting process take?

Once you are healed and cleared by your surgeon, we can begin the fitting process. From your initial evaluation to prosthesis delivery typically takes about 6-8 weeks.

Do you make prosthetics for all amputation levels?

Yes. Optimus Prosthetics provides upper and lower limb prosthetics for all amputation levels, all mobility levels, and all ages, including pediatric patients. The type of prosthesis you receive depends on factors like your activity and mobility prior to amputation, which we assess in your initial evaluation.

Will insurance cover my prosthetic limb?

We accept most insurance providers and work diligently on behalf of our patients to make sure insurance covers as much as possible, if not all.

Can I customize the look of my prosthesis?

Yes. If you provide a piece of fabric with a design you like, we can use it on your prosthesis. Patients often bring in t-shirts. We have made glitter and glow-in-the-dark prostheses. You can also match your skin tone or leave it the color of the carbon fiber we use.

Do you fabricate prosthetics on site?

Yes. All fabrication is done in-house at our clinics, including 3D printed check sockets. This lets us adjust and refit in days rather than weeks, which means fewer trips for you and a better-fitting final socket.

What if I have a problem with my prosthesis after hours?

Call our office and you will reach a clinician who is on call. You should check your skin daily. Redness is normal but should fade within 15-20 minutes. If it does not, or if skin breakdown occurs, stop wearing your prosthesis and call to make an appointment.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes, at all three of our locations in Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati. There is no commitment, pressure, or obligation.

We understand that becoming an amputee is never on anyone’s bucket list. Losing a part of your body brings challenges not only physically but also mentally and emotionally, and as you progress in this journey, you will undoubtedly have more questions. From your surgery onward, we are by your side for every step of the way. We are there to answer your questions following your amputation and provide you with a device to protect your residual limb. We visit you multiple times while you are in the hospital and while you are going through rehabilitation. We attend your surgical follow-up appointments to be your advocate and make sure you are progressing forward to regain your mobility.

The type of prosthesis that you receive depends on a number of factors like your activity and mobility prior to your amputation, which are all assessed in our initial evaluation. Based on that evaluation, we will discuss with you what options would be best. We provide prosthesis for all levels of amputations, so we can work with you to find what is right for you.
Yes! If you can provide us with a piece of fabric with a design you like, we can use that fabric for your prosthesis. Typically, patients will bring in t-shirts for this. If you would like to talk to one of our patients that has already gone through the process, we are happy to connect you with one. Additionally, depending on your location, there are great support groups, like the Byonic Limb Loss Group in Columbus. We will work with you to make sure you have the resources and support you need throughout the process.
You should be checking your skin daily. While redness is normal, it should go away within 15-20 minutes. If the redness does not go away or skin breakdown occurs, please stop wearing your prosthesis and call to make an appointment. If you are having issues after normal business hours, you can always call our office and reach a clinician who is on call.
